9/11

Ten years ago today the world changed forever.  It changed in so many ways and still effects us today.  For the past month I've heard and read nothing but stories and have seen pictures from that terrible day...Because it is the 10 year anniversary I decided to share my journal entry from that day.  It is in a purple journal with a picture of Jesus and a little girl on the front and to mark that page I have an American flag.  (*keep in mind I was 14 years old and some of the things I wrote in my journal may or may not be factual and also I must have been quite a space case back then because I was all over the place with what I wrote*)
As I lay in bed that night listening to Larry King Live that was playing on my sisters TV I wrote this......

Dear Diary,

'It's like Pearl Harbor' some might say or 'It's the beginning of World War 3.' Early this morning 4 planes were Hijacked.  One flew into one of the twin towers, 18 minutes later to an hour another one hit the other tower.  An hour later the second tower (that was hit) collapsed then about an hour later, I think, the first collapsed.  One of the other planes crashed into the pentagon and the other one was going to Chicago to crash into the Sears tower but crashed in a Field in Pittsburgh.  President Bush went into hiding but is now in the White House.  It was a terrorist act.  All airports are closed and tons of buildings and schools are closed all across America.  Everyone is coming together to help.  They think 10,000 or more people were in the towers and died.  Tons of people made it out of the buildings 200 and something people died in the plane crashes.  All of our enemy countries are celebrating, especially the Palestinians.  We don't know which country did it but everyone, including the government, thinks that Asama Bin Laden sent terrorists to do it.  I'm scared and hope we don't go to war.  The first time I heard about it I was walking into 1st period, drama, and this kid told me that 3 planes crashed.  2 in New York and one at the Pentagon.  I didn't think much of it but I went into 2nd and we watched the news and I felt and saw the impact.  All I can do is pray and hope for the best.  I hope nothing more bad happens.   ---I go on to talk about what I wore that day and about a boy I had a crush on---   they just put a song on the radio (God bless America)  It's making me cry.  I love living in America.  One lady got a hold of her husband on the phone while she was on the plane.  She said the hijackers were armed with knives and box cutters.  And there was more than one hijacker.  In  5th we talked about it and watched the news.  ---I talk more about boys---- In seminary we talked about it, and that's when it hit me.  Just how many people actually died.  Oh, and there are 100 and something hospitals in New York and all of them are filled up.  Oh and they are also saying that Asama Bin Laden said that he was going to do this 3 weeks ago, but he is always making threats.  After school I started my first day of swim team.  It was fun.  I'm so tired though.  Barbara Olsen was the lady in the plane who called her husband Ted.  She died when the plane hit the Pentagon. Oh, and a building by the twin towers collapsed too.   Tons of places are evacuated. 200 and something firefighters are dead.  83 or so policemen are missing.  People jumped out of the windows.  All schools in New York are closed.  ----    I don't know if I believe it happened, I keep thinking maybe the towers are still standing.  It's all just a dream.  But I know deep inside it's not.  The Empire state building is now that tallest building in New York.    ----I go on talking about my sisters birthday party and how YW was cancelled----  Tons of other countries are supporting and helping us.  And the country that Asama Bin Laden is from is going to do a search for him in the country..

I am so grateful for this great country we live in.  I am proud to be an American.  Out of great adversity came great strength and together we can do anything.  I am so grateful for my family, for the blessing it is to be a mother to my sweet boys, and for my husband.  He is an amazing man and I am so proud of what he has chosen to do for our country and for us.  I hope everyone can remember where they were that day and send up a little prayer for those who lost their loved ones.
